If the blood or nerve supply of the tooth is infected through decay then you’ll need root canal treatment. When the soft tissue inside the tooth becomes infected this can spread and lead to a dental abscess. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection. The root is then cleaned and filled with gutta percha, a special material to prevent any further infection.

We use a surgical microscope, that magnifies to 20x. It is used during the treatment and greatly enhances the success rate. A crown or permanent filling will be done after there has been no sign of infection. Crowns are most common since the root canal procedure weakens the tooth. The crown is usually placed as soon as possible, within a month or less. Most courses of treatment will involve two or more visits to the clinic.
